Our Saanens

SGCH Tradewinds RL Veronica
It is not always easy for me to follow the CAE prevention program because of my demanding job off the farm, but the last couple of years kids have been taken from their dams at birth and raised separately on heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk. The young does are tested for CAE prior to kidding and if negative their kids stay on their dam and are allowed to nurse. The herd is abscess free and I am very particular about health care at the farm and at shows. Several of my does have lived til 15 or 16 years of age and have been shown well past 10 years of age. We have only Saanens as we love their easy going disposition and high milk production.

Tradewinds RL Vicenta
A $50 deposit is required on each kid ordered with the balance due prior to shipping or at pickup. The deposit will be returned if the proper sex isn’t available or if I decide to keep the kid myself and I always reserve the right to do that. Sales list prices are valid for kids at 4-5 weeks of age. There may also be some first fresheners for sale in the spring. It will be necessary that you pick up your kid at your earliest convenience especially if it is during show season.
Welcome to TradewindsDairyGoats.com
This past September, I decided that it was time for me to get a website,
especially since I need to put together a sales list for this upcoming year.
I felt that an online sales list would be easier in the long run and something
that could be updated. So, I was telling my daughter, Alison, this on the
cell phone, and in a matter of minutes she called me back and said my website
was already registered. It is www.tradewindsdairygoats.com and I owe this
new endeavor to my son-in-law, Cameron, who is creating it. It has been
a fun experience, updating my herd records and looking at old pictures from
when I got started in goats over twenty years ago.
While our first goat was a doe given to us by a neighbor, the foundation of my herd really started with two does (Singing Spruce Rhinestone and Signing Spruce CSP Victory Lap) that I purchased from Claudia and Mark Johnson of the Singing Spruce herd.
This year we decided to get back on DHIR test rather than relying on just a One Day Official Test to show our does’ milk production. Right now I have four does that are projected to milk over 3000 lbs. We also participated in Linear Appraisal this year. It has been several years since the does were appraised and it was a great learning experience. We attend about 8-10 shows during the show season which normally begins around Memorial Day and ends with going to the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville in early November.
